constructing.

i have been hunched behind my sewing machine more this week than ever before in my life. i am proud of the fantastic pincushion bracelet, tokyo purse, sailboat pinholder, cougar clause costume, and go-go dancer costume i've made.

i realized that the ability to construct clothing is a skill that could come in very handy should the economy continue in this direction.

quilting it all together

i've been kinda down for a few days. and my carpet is covered with threads and fabric scraps.

there's so much undefined right now. work stuff, money stuff. and this is exactly the kind of tension/discomfort that makes me want to withdraw from real life. and quilt.

i started a quilt in march. it is almost finished. it's beautiful. these minty and celery and mossy greens, captured in flowers, solids, and stripes. it's squares and rectangles, carefully cut, arranged, pieced, and sewn together. i've put so much into it. money, time, energy, and love.

i'm running out of those things. all of them.

being completely literal for a moment, i need to buy this kind of spray adhesive that will hold all the stiched wizardry and the interior softness together until i can masterfully quilt it all. and it's, like, a 20 dollar bottle of spray glue (i know, right?), and i have .15 in my bank account, so i can't finish my beautiful quilt, just yet.

i've begun a patchwork quilt.

i have scraps. pieces that were extra or remnants from other projects. leftovers from some skirts i made in college, and the edges from a pillow i made for kiki. and also, the remaining pieces that were trimmed from my beautiful quilt.

and i'm trying to turn the scraps into a different sort of masterpiece.

my poor roommate. she can tell that my mood's been down, and i told her that if my occupational and financial situations don't improve, she may be without a roommate. she was definately not happy to hear that. on top of that, it looks like i put 3 yards of gingham yellow cotton/poly blend through a shredder and let it loose on our reading room floor. she pointed out tonight that the fragments were making their way to the living room.

and she said that kiki's pillow would look great on our futon.

we don't have a futon yet, and the pillow's going to kiki's house. but she's trying to be helpful.

i'm coping with the current tumultuousness of my life by making another quilt. and trusting, as i focus on producing something to keep me warm in the winter, that my own seemingly tattered pieces will come together into something beautiful, too.
